I am pretty sure that FOX would agree to a 90 percent split of the revenue, and agree to not fund the restoration, making disney foot the bill. (for million dollars) and give Fox 90 percent of the revenue.

"the love of film" part is where disney does the restoration, for no profit, because " it is the right thing to do". question is how much could star wars make as a restoration?. What ever happenned to the "love of film". There are plenty of fan edits that keep shots like that while removing the more blatant changes. The example you posted isn't a recomposition, but a CG replacement with an added camera move, which I wouldn't be OK having in my "unaltered" version. Personally, I wish we could have both/all (unaltered/remastered/97 Special Edition/04 Special Edition/11 Special Edition), but if I had to pick just one, I want it in its matte box glory.

It all comes down to do you want a simply "remastered" version of the movie (which the Special Edition was originally planned to be), or do you want the exact version you saw you first time.

Ie if an FX shot was recomposited for the "Special Edition" to replace a poor effect in the 1977 release, is that OK so long as it is near as practicable identical to the original? This, from doubleofive's links (first post), is the type of thing I'm thinking of. A question - do people actually want a restored original theatrical release, or more a restored release which is shot-for-shot consistent with the original theatrical release?
